Wealden District Council has brought in a temporary contractor to clear a number of recycling Bring Sites in the community this week.
“The Service we are receiving for Kier at the moment is appalling and there is no immediate prospect of that getting significantly better. The problems are extended through-out Wealden,” Councillor Roy Galley, Cabinet member for Waste and Recycling told Cabinet (Wednesday).
“We cannot allow this situation to continue so we have notified Kier that we intend to invoke our step-in rights which will allow us to bring in outside contractors this week to clear Brings Sites. This should relieve the current pressure on Kier and allow their crews to work elsewhere.”
The Council hopes this measure will allow Kier to focus its efforts on household waste and recycling collections where problems caused by vehicle breakdowns and staff shortages, has meant a number of collection rounds have been missed over the past week.
This will apply to some 17 Wealden Bring Sites which desperately need to be emptied. The community Bring Sites take a range of different recyclables.
The Community Bring Sites to be cleared are at: Crowborough (Croft Road &
Jarvis Brook), Chiddingly, Forest Row, Piltdown, Groombridge, Herstmonceux, Polegate, Pevensey Bay, Uckfield (Tesco car park, Regency Close & Luxford Fields) Framfield, Hooe, Heathfield and Alfriston.
