 Admin Notice Minimize
Over the coming weeks admin will be evaluating different web site platforms on which to transfer the Village Community Web Site www.hadlowdown.com.  We have been aware for some time that the web site platform which has served the village well for approximately 14 years needed upgrading to bring its capabilities and appearance up to a standard that will hopefully serve the village even better  for many years to come.
A Parish Councillor has recently taken it upon himself to instigate a move toward setting up an alternative web site via the offices of the Parish Council Chair.  A third Parish Councillor has offered to facilitate and fund the alternative web site.  The Village Community Web Site is, of course, an entirely independent entity with no connection to the Parish Council  although it does, as a goodwill gesture, host free of charge PC records of minutes and other documents. At a demonstration to an audience invited by the Parish Council Chair on Thurs. 8th Feb. It was noted that a slide of a web page that was the intellectual property of the owner of the Hadlow Down Community Web Site had been lifted from the Hadlow Down Online web site pages and was being used without permission.  This was pointed out to the Parish Councillor who was using it but the point was ignored and the material still used.  Consequently Web Site Admin has decided that it can no longer trust the integrity or intentions of any group formed to move forward with an alternative site and has taken some precautions to protect its property.
The matter of further action regarding the use of Intellectual Property without permission is being considered.
Therefore, as from immediately, some pages on the web site may not be available without logging in with new permission.  These include those that contain material that is exclusive to the web site and can easily be downloaded or transferred elsewhere such as Village History and associated articles, war records etc., other village information and linked and associated articles, photographs from the 'Old Hadlow Down' gallery and other photo galleries etc.
We apologise for being forced into taking these measures and any inconvenience they may cause. In the short term anyone wanting access to these closed pages can send their First Name, Last Name, a ‘User Name’ and email address to webadmin@hadlowdown.com for a new password.
All Neighbourhood Watch Alerts,  Village Emergency Alerts and other Safety Communications will continue to be run through hadlowdown.com as normal and all emails and other data held in connection with NHW and Hadlow Down Online Newsletters is completely secure and not at risk.
We hope to return to normality as soon as possible but this will depend on other agencies within the village and events that are not within our control.

Please be aware that there are liable to be a lot of cyclists on local roads including A272 through Hadlow Down on 7th April 2018

Flight Ticket Fraud

Fraudsters are attempting to entice victims who are looking for cheap flights abroad.
Victims have reported booking tickets via websites or a “popular” ticket broker, only to discover that after payment via bank transfer or electronic wire transfer, the tickets/booking references received are counterfeit. In some cases, all communications between the company or broker and the victim have been severed.
Fraudsters are targeting individuals who are seeking to travel to African nations and the Middle East, particularly those wishing to travel in time for popular public and religious holidays.

Great British Spring Clean - Litter Picking Weekend  - 2nd-4th March
As people may be aware, for the last few years a dedicated team of volunteers have helped Julian Michaelson-Yeates pick up the litter from all of the main A272 and the majority of the back lanes of Hadlow Down.    Each year the amount of litter that has been gathered has been reducing due to the fact that it has been done on a regular basis.
This year as part of the Keep Britain Tidy campaign, there is a weekend dedicated to picking up litter and it is called The Great British Spring Clean.   This is a campaign with a simple aim: to bring people across the country together to clear up the litter that blights our towns, villages, countryside and beaches.
We would like to ask for volunteers for this task to contact Julian on his mobile (07814-931348) or landline (01825 830688) if you can make yourself available for a small period of time over the weekend of 2nd-4th March (even an hour would be helpful).   Litter picking equipment can be provided such as:  picking tools, black sacks, hoops for sacks, hi viz vests, etc

Grass verges on pavement edges
At recent Parish Council meetings, a problem has been raised relating to the fact that grass verges are encroaching on pavement areas making them very narrow.   This, in turn, causes problems for people with prams, buggies or wheelchairs, etc to use the pavements.   In the past, the job of cutting back the verges was part of the job for a Village Maintenance Team paid for by East Sussex County Council but, due to the severe constraints on their budget, these Teams have been disbanded and there is no resource from the County Council to do this type of work anymore.
The Parish Council are aware that, although Hadlow Down does not have a large amount of pavement area, the pavements that are in place are regularly used by a lot of people in the village.   At the last meeting when this was being discussed, a member of the public suggested that we should try and ask all householders who have properties adjacent to a pavement to take responsibility for their own grass verges and cut these back.    We realise that this in an imposition on people but, if every householder were to do this, then it would make life a lot easier and more comfortable for all the users of the pavements and therefore we would like to make the request and see if householders are willing to do it.

Subject: Warm Homes Fund
The winners of the first round of the Warm Home Fund - from National Grid and Community Interest Company Affordable Warmth Solution (AWS) - were announced on 14 December 2017, with 9,000 homes set to benefit. The £150 million fund was set up using part of the proceeds from the sale of the National Grid's majority stake in its gas distribution business. It will fund the installation of affordable heating solutions in fuel poor households which don’t use mains gas as their primary source of heat. Following the first round of bidding, a total of £33 million was awarded to 35 local authorities and social landlords across the UK - with Wealden being one of them. From today we will be promoting the Warm Homes Fund (WHF) to help 40 rural homes in Wealden install central heating for the first time.

 FAKE NEWS Minimize

One of the areas highlighted in returns from the recent web site survey was that there is not much humour on the site.  Another regular viewer to the pages also mentioned the recent phenomenon of Fake News throughout all media and could anything relevant to Hadlow Down be highlighted.   We’ve done our best to combine the both in this module and we’ll see how it’s received over the next few months. :-

Fake News 001 10/02/2018
It has been reported that there is person currently in the vicinity of Hadlow Down who is making offers to provide a car for the community,   Some very special chosen residents of Hadlow Down have received invitations to a presentation    The presentation consisted of an opening picture of a slightly broken car that had been illegally lifted from an internet site and people were assured it wasn’t the one on offer and that was followed by numerous slides of sketchy  and vague scribblings that had a slight resemblance to a car but could have actually been a chest of drawers.
